Born in Istanbul, Sila Eser began playing the viola at age 11 in the Istanbul University State Conservatory. As a winner of the British Council Young Musician of the Year Award, she studied in the Royal Northern College of Music Manchester. Sila also participated in the Orchestre de la Méditerranée in Aix-En-Provence, performing in festivals throughout France. In 1997 she was awarded Musician of the Year and performed in the Young Artist Series in the Istanbul Music Festival. Sila entered Northern Illinois University where she studied with Richard Young from the Vermeer Quartet. After completing her Performer's Certificate, Sila began her quest for a master's degree at Yale School of Music with Jesse Levine and Tokyo Quartet. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at the State University of New York at Stony Brook under the guidance of Lawrence Dutton of the Emerson Quartet.
