School: The Juilliard School

You-young Kim is a living example of how music – and musicians – can bridge cultures and traditions. Born in Korea, she pursues musical studies not only at Seoul National University, but also at The Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and The Juilliard School in New York, where she is conducting graduate work. Kim has taken top honors in the World Journal Competition, and she has shared her music around the globe, including at the Sun-Jae Art Center in Seoul, the Henry Mancini Institute in Los Angeles, and the Purcell School in London. In 2004, Kim appeared with the Silk Road ensemble and Yo-Yo Ma in Carnegie Hall. She is excited to participate in Red Bull Artsehcro because, she says, “I want to experience as much as I can with an open mind.”
